Baptism

We look forward to welcoming your child into our faith community through Baptism!  Thank you for blessing St. Bernard Parish with this new life!

Baptism is a time when God invites all of us to reflect on the privilege and responsiblity it is to be entrusted with a child.

It is not only the time when your child will become a member of God's family, but a time for all of us to renew our faith commitment.

Because Baptism is such an important event in the life of your family and our community, we would like to meet with you to prepare for this memorable occasion .  This preparation process varies according to the needs of your family.  for some parents, Baptism is a reinforcement of the faith practices that are already an integral part of their lives.  for other parents, Baptism may be the motivation to search for or return to active involvement in a faith communtiy.  If this is your situation, we welcome you along with your child!

We want you to know that whether you are currently a member of this parish or not, are a single parent or married, your child is an infant or older, or you are parents with different religious background and faith traditions, you are all welcome here!  All of us have a part in nurturing this life that God has given to the world.  I look forward to meeting with you and disigning a preparation process and baptism celebration that respond to the unique richness of your family!

Just as you rejoiced when the miracle of this child joined your family through conception or adoption, we welcome you and your child with great joy at this time.

WHY SHOULD I BAPTIZE MY CHILD?

PREPARATION PROCESS

1. Call or stop in the parish office to register for the Baptism Preparation process.

2. First time parent and any parents having a child baptized at St. Bernard Parish for the first time will have a private meeting

with Pam Mullins, Pastoral Associate.  Resources and additional preparation will be provided if needed.

3. All parents need to attend a Baptism Preparation Group Session before the celebration. You do not have to attend the

session the same month as the ceremony.  In fact, we encourage parents to attend a session early in the pregnancy or

adoption process.  It is much harder to find the time to attend a session after the child has arrived.

BAPTISM CELEBRATIONS

The following dates are set as community celebrations for the baptism of infants and young children. To make sure that each family receives special attention, we have limited the number of children baptized at each celebration. Please contact the parish office to tentatively hold a place in the ceremony of your choice. Final confirmation will be made after the family has participated in our baptism preparation process. (When these dates are filled, we will schedule additional opportunities.)

Fathers’ Day

People were bringing their little children to Jesus to have him touch them; but the disciples were scolding them for this. Jesus became indignant when he noticed it and said to them: “Let the children come to me and do not hinder them. It is to just such as these that the kingdom of God belongs. I assure you that whoever does not accept the kingdom of God like a little child shall not enter into it.” Then he embraced them and blessed them, placing his hands on them.

Mark 10:13-16
